Privacy Policy

My work runs through two companies, and both are mine.

Andrea Stolpe GmbH is a Swiss company. It’s responsible for Write, Record, Release, the one-to-one mentorship, 30-Day Songwriter, and the site at writerecordrelease.ch.

Andrea Stolpe LLC is a Florida company. It’s responsible for the retreats, the Recording Sessions, and the site at andreastolpe.com.

The two have separate books and separate operations, but you’re dealing with me either way, and you never need to work out which one to write to. Use the address at the bottom of this page and it will reach the right place.

One thing that isn’t obvious, so I’ll say it directly: the company that runs a website and the company that runs a program aren’t always the same. If you read about the retreats on andreastolpe.com, the Florida company holds the record of that visit. If you then take the Songwriter Profile Assessment over at writerecordrelease.ch, the Swiss company holds your answers. The moment you actually enroll in something, the company that runs that program takes over.

If you take the Songwriter Profile Assessment, I collect your answers, your first name and your email address. I use the address to send you your profile and The 3-Day Jumpstart, the writing exercises made for it. I only add you to my mailing list if you tick the box asking me to, and that box is never required.

If you join a waiting list or send an enquiry about the mentorship, a retreat, or the Recording Sessions, I collect what you type into that form, which usually includes your name, your email and a note about where you are with your writing.

I also record which page or link brought you here, so I know which of my own pages are actually useful.

Your name and email, so you can sign in and I know who I’m writing to. The songs, lyrics, recordings and videos you choose to upload. Your progress through the Paths, and the messages we exchange.

These happen in real rooms, so I need a little more: a postal address for anything I send you, plus any dietary requirements, accessibility needs, or emergency contact you give me. I use that to run the event and nothing else, and I delete the health-related parts once the event is over.

I use your name and email to run the thing you signed up for, sending your assessment results, replying to your enquiry, delivering a course, running the mentorship we’ve agreed on, or getting you fed at a retreat.

Where I send you writing guidance and news about my programs, I do that because you asked me to, and you can stop it at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email or by writing to me.

I keep my sites secure and working because I have a legitimate interest in them not falling over. And I keep the financial records the law requires me to keep, which differs between my two companies because Swiss and American rules aren’t the same.

I don’t make any automated decision about you that has a legal or similarly significant effect. Your assessment answers are scored to produce a Songwriter Profile, and that’s a description, not a judgement.

You own 100%, full-stop rights to all your songs and recordings. Uploading them gives me no claim over them. I never sell, license or publish your music, and I never use it to train any AI.

Your files are reached through unguessable private links used only inside the platform, so they aren’t listed publicly, indexed by search engines, or shared with anyone. Only you and I can see them, unless you choose to share your work with other writers.

Your account details, messages, assessment answers and lyrics are held in a private database hosted in the EU. Your audio and video files are held on cloud storage in Frankfurt.

A small number of companies handle parts of this on my behalf, and only for that purpose.

Vercel hosts the Mentorship platform and stores your uploaded files. Neon hosts the database. Resend delivers sign-in and notification emails. Squarespace hosts andreastolpe.com. Kajabi delivers course content. Circle runs the community and Zoom the live teaching. ActiveCampaign manages the mailing list. If you buy something, the payment is taken by Stripe and ThriveCart, not by me. I never see or hold your card details.

Several of these are US-based, and their staff may access data from outside the EU under the standard contractual safeguards their agreements provide.

I never sell your data or your music, and I don’t use either for advertising.

The two sites behave differently here, so it’s worth separating them.

writerecordrelease.ch uses cookies only to make the site work, never to advertise or to track you. If you take the Songwriter Profile Assessment, one cookie remembers your answers so your result is still there if you close the tab and come back later on the same device. If you sign in, another keeps you signed in until you sign out. There are no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels and no third-party analytics.

andreastolpe.com uses cookies that are necessary to make the site work, and we use Heap analytics to research traffic patterns. You’ll be asked for your choices when you first visit, and you can change them at any time.

The Mentorship program signs you in with a one-time link sent to your email, so there’s no password to store or leak. A secure session keeps you signed in on your device until you sign out.

I run one mailing list, and both of my companies use it to tell you about programs, courses, retreats and recording opportunities. That makes them joint controllers of the list, which is a legal term meaning we decide together what the list is for and how it’s run.

What it means for you is simpler than it sounds: you can make any request about the list to either company, and you’ll get the same answer. The two companies have a written arrangement between them setting out who handles what, and you’re welcome to ask me for the details.

Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops the marketing but not the essential messages about a program you’re actually enrolled in.

Because both companies are mine and serve the same writers, some information moves between them, including when a subscriber enrolls in a program held by the other company, for instance, or when a Write, Record, Release member applies for a Recording Session.

What moves is limited to what’s needed: your name, your email, and the fact of your relationship with the other company. Financial records don’t move, because the two companies keep separate books. Your songs don’t move either.

I keep your songs, recordings and our conversations available to Mentorship Program participants for at least a year after our active work together ends, so you can return to them. I won’t delete anything without telling you first.

If you’ve only taken the assessment or joined a list, I keep that until you ask me to remove it or unsubscribe.

Financial records I keep for as long as each company is legally required to.

If you’d like a specific file, a message, or your whole account removed sooner, just ask and I’ll take care of it.

You can ask to see what I hold about you, correct it, have it deleted, have its use restricted, object to how I’m using it, or get a copy of it in a portable form to take elsewhere. Where you’ve given consent, you can withdraw it at any time, and that doesn’t affect anything done before you did. Just email me.

If you’re in the United States, the same applies. Some state privacy laws only cover businesses much larger than mine, but I’d rather offer you the rights than argue about thresholds. You’ll never be charged more or given a lesser service for asking.

Providing your information is always your choice, but I can’t send you a Songwriter Profile or run a mentorship without at least your name and email.

My programs are built for adults, and I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has given me their information, tell me and I’ll delete it.

Please tell me first and I’ll try to put it right.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority. In Switzerland that’s the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner. If you’re in the EU or the UK, you can complain to the authority where you live. In the United States, your state attorney general.

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change materially affects how your information is used, I’ll tell you rather than quietly editing the page.
